Consumers Union (CU) has met the Standard of Excellence and is designated a Best Workplace for Commuters.  CU operates a no-cost 15-passenger van, used by at least 35 staffers each day that picks up and delivers people to a New York City subway stop and two train stations. Some 47 staffers participate in the NuRide carpooling program, and CU maintains a carpooling database on the employee Intranet. The Guaranteed Ride Home program provides free transportation home for staff unable to carpool or find an alternative commuting method.

CU allows many staff members to work from home. The organization’s enhanced Virtual Private Network (VPN) assists employees who telecommute. In addition, CU’s headquarters feature a bike rack, as well as lockers and showers for employees who cycle to work.

Founded in 1936, Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports, is an expert, independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to work for a fair, just, and safe marketplace for all consumers and to empower consumers to protect themselves.
