Live from KPRC Channel 2, where local news comes first, this is News to Houston First at 4.

Khambrel Marshall, Reporter
While most workers in the Houston area commute to their jobs, today a new study released shows which commuter companies are the best bet for Houston workers.

Stephan Sylvan, EPA
The daily commute has become so stressful and time consuming, it's like a second job.

Khambrel Marshall, Reporter
If that's the way many Houston commuters feel, workers in this town are in luck. Thirty employers already have made it onto an important list, and many more are expected to follow.

Stephan Sylvan, EPA
Best Workplaces for Commuters are truly great places to work for commuters who want to make a change out of the stressful drive-alone commute into the low-stress commuting ways of getting to work, by vanpool, by carpoool, by bus, by telecommute.

Khambrel Marshall, Reporter
Best Workplaces is a business partnership program created by the Environmental Protection Agency. Houston is the first city in Texas and the third in the United States to try it. So civic leaders are especially proud of the fact that the City of Houston is one of the employers recognized for being commuter friendly.

Gordon Quan, Houston City Council
What a delight it is to have someone to talk to in your car. You also save wear and tear on your car and there's not two parking fees to pay.

Khambrel Marshall, Reporter
Organizers hope that the more commuters on board, the more progress will be made toward easing traffic and pollution problems. And giving employees incentive to participate also will give them a feeling of helping their community.

Robert Buchanan, City of Houston Employee
I live in Cady. A friend of mine lives in Montrose. What I do is put my bike on the back of my truck, ride into Montrose, drop my truck off, and then ride into downtown down West Dallas.

Khambrel Marshall, Reporter
Robby Buchanan is all for that idea. He says riding his bicycle into downtown is good exercise, it's more convenient, and besides, it's fun.

Robert Buchanan, City of Houston Employee
That's the main reason I do it is for exercise, to get out of the house, fresh air, things like that.

Khambrel Marshall, Reporter
