This calculator is
designed as an easy tool to estimate the costs and benefits of various commuter benefits. The calculator has four steps:
- Input employer information. In this step, you provide information
about your organization, such as location, parking situation, and number
of employees.
- Select benefits. In this step, you select benefits to examine.
- Estimate employee participation. The calculator estimates employee
participation based on information you entered about your organization
and the benefits you selected. You may use the estimated value or select
within a range based on your own assessment.
- Calculate results. Based on participation levels and information
you entered earlier, the calculator estimates costs and benefits for
your organization, your employees, and your community. All costs and
benefits are calculated using estimated values for a typical employer.
The main "Summary Results" page provides an overview of total costs
and benefits and divides the impacts into four sections:
- Direct Costs and Savings: Direct costs and savings
for the employer and employees include financial impacts that occur
directly as a result of the commuter benefits.
- Potential Facility Cost Savings: Potential savings
include reducing parking and office space costs; these cost savings
may require further action by the employer, such as renegotiating space
leases.
- Recruitment and Productivity Benefits: These business
benefits can be substantial but may not appear as direct outlays or
cost savings for an employer.
Community Benefits: Community benefits include reduced
traffic, energy consumption, and emissions. You may print or save the
main "Summary Results" page by clicking on the print/save icon at the
top right corner of page.
Click on each of the four sections to change default values or get more
information on how each value is calculated. When you change assumptions
on individual pages, results are re-calculated and displayed on the
main "Summary Results" page when you return.
To re-run your analysis for a new work site, for a different set of
benefits, or with different participation levels, go back to any of
the earlier steps and change selections at any time.
