Ten Fairfax County Employers Designated “Best Workplaces for Commuters”

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation, in partnership with the University of South Florida’s Center for Urban Transportation Research, have designated 10 Fairfax County employers as “Best Workplaces for Commuters” for 2010.

The employers were recognized for the range of transportation options offered to their employees. The designation acknowledges employers who have excelled in implementing green commuter programs, including ride-sharing, transit benefits, biking and walking, teleworking, alternate work schedules and other strategies.

The employers honored include the Fairfax County government, National Wildlife Federation, Booz-Allen Hamilton, the Aerospace Corp., Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), Orange Business Services, ICF International, George Mason University, Inova Fairfax Hospital, Inova Alexandria Hospital.

Eastern Research Group (ERG) – Boston, MA

ERG has met the Standard of Excellence and is a Best Workplace for Commuters.  ERG encourages its employees to leave their cars at home and use alternative modes to get to work. Telework is encouraged, schedules are flexible, subsidies are offered to offset the cost of transit, and many employees bike and walk to work. In addition, ERG offsets 100 percent of its annual electricity usage with green power.
